A Different View

Right now I'm struggling to design a program cover for the ballet, trying to find some way to unify three distinct photos. I mean really — there must be something in common between a guy leaping in the air (wearing only bicycle shorts), a ballerina princess (wearing a tutu and tiara) with her prince, and a corps of girls (wearing sparkling costumes) in snow.

I know there's a way to make it work, I just can't see it right now.

Sometimes a different view helps. Here's an example of a photo I shot vertically. I like it. But when I cropped it and made it horizontal, it completely changed.

Tell me. Which do you prefer?

Getting Started

Writing the first blog entry is a little like going to school on the first day. You think you know what to expect, but the butterflies still flutter.

For several years, I've been taking photos of my children and my friends' children. I've taken photos for Mobile Ballet, the church, a couple of bloggers, and various other groups or individuals. For more than 20 years, I've been taking the photos of others and making them look their best in Photoshop. My work has been plastered all over the Southeast and the internet. Now I'm moving to the next phase . . . using my photos in my business.

I've found that I'm best at natural-lighting photos. So, that's going to be the focus (no pun intended!) of this newest business venture. No flash, no extra lighting, no white boards to bounce the light. Just me and my camera, outside with you and those you love.

Check back in a day or so and I'll have some details about mini holiday shoots I'm planning. In the meantime, enjoy a few photos from the farm and beach.
